Theater owners demand refund for Aamir Khan's 'Thugs of Hindostan' post heavy losses

Aamir Khan's 'Thugs of Hindostan' has turned into a dud at the box office. After crossing the Rs 100 crore mark in just the first three days, the collections took a nosedive eventually. Collections seemed to have slowed to a crawl as the film raked in only Rs 140 crore in total on its second Monday. This has led to a huge loss for many exhibitors, who have now demanded a financial compensation from YRF.

Republic TV exclusively got in touch with popular trade analyst Akshaye Rathi to confirm these reports are true and he corroborated. Speaking about the same he said, "Yes there seems to have been an attempt from exhibitors to ask YRF for some kind of compensation, either for this film or for any future films from them. B and C centers, single screens have been more affected and have suffered a heavy loss."

However, he was also quick to point out that the this is not something new as he said, "This is nothing new though. Shah Rukh Khan had done it for Dilwale, Salman Khan for Tubelight and Rajinikanth is known to compensate for losses when his films have not worked. Plus, YRF holds a lot of credibility, so I am sure that they will ensure that their losses are covered."

'Thugs of Hindostan' saw Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan come together on the silver screen for the first time. Directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, the film also stars Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh.
